Surah Takweer or Qur'at is the eighty-first surah and one of the Meccan surahs of the Qur'an, which is in the thirtieth part of the Qur'an. Takvir means to be tangled and darkened. This name is taken from the first verse of the Surah. Surah Takweer talks about the signs of the Resurrection and the transformations of that day, as well as the greatness of the Qur'an and its influence. Among the famous verses of this sura are the eighth and ninth verses, which talk about burying girls alive during Jahiliyyah and ask for what sin these girls were killed (by the sin of murder). It is said in the hadiths that if someone recites Surah "Idha al-Shamso Qurayat", God will protect him from scandal when his deed is revealed.
