Surah Zumar is the thirty-ninth surah and one of the Meccan surahs of the Qur'an, which is placed in the 23rd and 24th chapters. The naming of this surah as "Zamr" is due to the presence of this word in verses 71 and 73 of the surah, which deals with the division of humans into two groups, the people of heaven and the people of hell, on the Day of Resurrection and examining their conditions.
